How It Works

The Personal Craziness Index is a self-monitoring method described by Dr. Patrick Carnes. The idea is simple: small behaviors tend to slip first, before a hard day becomes a hard week.

1. Pick Seven Signs

Choose the personal warning signs that tend to show up first for you, grouped by area of life.

2. Check In Daily

Tap the ones that came up today. Your score runs from 0 to 7. Lower is calmer.

3. Watch the Trend

Over weeks, the pattern becomes clear, so you can act early instead of in a crisis.

Common Questions

iPhone Only — Why?

Seven Tells uses iCloud Keychain to encrypt your data end-to-end. That encryption model only exists on Apple devices, and building it properly on Android would mean choosing a different (and weaker) approach. For now, iPhone only is the honest call.

Does the Developer See My Data?

No. The app has no accounts and no server. Everything stays on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, it travels through your own private iCloud — sealed with a key only your devices hold. Doug cannot see it even if he wanted to.

What Is the Personal Craziness Index?

A self-monitoring framework from Dr. Patrick Carnes. Small behaviors — sleep, eating, skipping meetings — tend to slip before a hard week becomes a crisis. Tracking them is how you catch the drift early. Read more about the PCI.

Private by Design

Your recovery data is nobody's business but yours. Seven Tells is built so it stays that way, and the developer has no way to see what you record.

Stays on Your Device

No accounts, no sign-up. Your check-ins live on your iPhone.

No Developer Analytics

The app has no analytics, ads, or third-party SDKs added by the developer. Only Apple's standard system metrics apply, which you control in iOS Settings.

Your iCloud, Your Keys

Sync is optional and off by default. When on, it uses your own private iCloud. The developer cannot see it.
